November at Millinocket Floral Shop

10 November, 2010

November, the month of change. The weather has turned from almost summery to deep chill nights, brisk winds, and a scattering of snowflakes. It is also the month of preparation and execution. Thanksgiving is just a couple of weeks away and I can already smell that turkey with all the fixings cooking. I can see the beautiful centerpieces gracing the holiday table, some saying “Thank you for sharing your bounty” and others saying “Wish we could be there with you”.
The traditional cornucopia arrangement reflects the overflowing harvest and joy of the season.

November also signals the upcoming rush of the Christmas Season. With the ordering of poinsettias behind me, I have set my sights on some permanent botanicals for Christmas.

Now it’s time to take a trip into the woods and glean some fresh boughs and branches in preparation for our Christmas Specials! That will be the next blog…. But first, a cute picture of two “enemies” enjoying the fleeting sunshine. In our front window, Mittens our shop cat, has slept for 20 years. Our darling girl went blind quite suddenly last December 8th and almost one year later, is still making her rounds at the shop. And from day one, her resentment of Oscar coming to work everyday was apparent. Now that she can’t see him, she tolerates his presence and that tolerance provided us with this special photo opportunity today.
